If you weren’t one of the lucky people who got to go Brixton Academy for The xx‘s eight night extravaganza, don’t worry, you aren’t alone. Luckily, the British trio has blessed us who couldn’t be there with a documentary about those nights entitled, Night + Day.
This 21 minute project doesn’t just focus on the band and their eight nights in Brixton, but more importantly the community. They visited Raw Material, which is a place that is available to the entire community, that supports primarily young people, and their musical talent, so it can flourish. They also stopped by The Baytree Centre. This is a women and girls centre in Brixton that supports them in realizing their aspirations. Not only that but they encourage them to push themselves and make an impact on the world around you.
The documentary touched on just how much art can make a difference in a community. Many people were showcased in the documentary giving their opinions on what art means to them and the space around them. One man said, “It enables people to change and it can create a very balanced society.”
The xx touched on what it means to them by saying, “Night + Day has always been a special project to us, as it’s a way for us to connect with and celebrate all of the amazing cultural activity happening in the places that we love.”.
They will be kicking off their North American spring tour at Coachella.
